Mark & Kenda Mullert
Mark and Kenda Mullert started Black Mountain Handyman in July 2018 with one van, a few tools, and a small client list from a local repair man. This was a leap of faith inspired by their own struggles to find someone reliable and trustworthy in the community to remodel their basement. Since day one, Mark and Kenda have operated the company with a clear vision to provide quality workmanship at fair prices, and build a team that could help improve customer homes here in the Swannanoa Valley. Mark does a little bit of everything for Black Mountain Handyman – from administrative work to getting his hands dirty at the job site – and finds joy in helping clients' creative vision come to life, making homes more comfortable, safe, and livable.
JESSICA CASE | Office Manager
Jess has been with us as Office Manager since November 2022, and we truly couldn't do what we do without her! If you've ever reached out to us over the phone or email, you've likely talked to Jess – she works hard day in and day out to keep us organized so that we can serve you best. Although she spends most of her days in our office, Jess loves to visit projects and see the progress, (and even moonlights as her own "handyman" for projects at her home after work) Jess is a mama to two awesome daughters – and two very cute puppies – and loves embracing the four seasons we get here in WNC.
NATHAN GRUVER | Project Manager
Nate started with us in 2020 and currently works as our Project Manager. We are super grateful for his positive attitude, heart for team building, and organization skills that keep us on track. His favorite jobs are the ones that involve working with the whole team. Nate is always up to learn something new and fills up his free time with anything from woodworking to baking and gardening or exploring our area’s many hiking and backpacking trails!
JEFF SHUMAN | Lead Handyman
We have been lucky to have Jeff’s diverse handyman knowledge, skill, and can-do attitude on the team since he joined us as a Lead Handyman in 2021! He is always up for whatever job comes his way, from resurfacing countertops to electrical work and everything in between.
ROB ROBINSON | Handyman
SAM ANDERSON | Handyman
Sam brings several years of experience in carpentry, home repair, and renovations to our team, and we're glad to have him! Some of his favorite projects include installing trim and creating custom furniture. Sam and his wife, Whitney, live here in Black Mountain with their two sons. When not at work, you can often find Sam knee deep in woodworking projects, playing and recording music, and enjoying our local food and beverage scene.

RYDER VAN DYKE | Handyman
Ryder’s positive attitude and willingness to learn a new skill make him an excellent member of the team. Ryder says his favorite part of the job is being able to see a revitalized transformation, and knowing he had a hand in it – whether it was a complete remodel or a simple coat of stain on a deck. Ryder is newly married to his wife Diana and loves studying history, playing board games, reading good books, and watching hockey!
